NASA software originally used to design exotic, hypersonic aircraft has found numerous applications in the private sector. It's used in the marine, ground transportation, construction, aviation and wind turbine industries. Emerging commercial space companies are using it too as they begin to design and build commercial crew capsules.
Sharing computer code with the private sector has become a major component of NASA’s Technology Transfer Program, with the Agency’s latest software catalog including more than 1,000 programs available for free. NASA also licenses some of its most successful programs — such as HyperSizer, software originally created to design advanced aircraft.
