Product Description

NASA and industry collaborated on a hand-held device that evaluates the effectiveness of carpet-cleaning systems by measuring the amount of soil they remove. The device, a portable NASA X-ray sensor used to detect invisible barcodes and analyze chemicals on the spot now looks for unseen spots in carpeting.

NASA Description

NASA required a scanner capable of detecting the makeup of materials down to their atoms. An X-ray fluorescence scanner developed in partnership with the agency is capable of detecting any gas, liquid, solid, or powder heavier than neon. In addition to its use in the carpet-cleaning industry, the scanner is also popular with museums, which use it to detect forgeries among works of art.
