Product Description

Invented during a NASA research project to increase the comfort and safety of commercial airline vehicle seats, temper foam — also known as memory foam — now appears in consumer products ranging from mattresses and pillows to hospital beds, footwear, prosthetics, and more.

NASA Description

In the late 1960s, NASA formed a research group in aeronautics to find practical improvements for the safety and comfort of commercial air travel. A project to devise a crash-proof seat resulted in the invention of a springy foam the inventors called "temper foam," which excelled at absorbing shock loads.
